Brilliant Time at our Carol Service
08 Dec 2017
A brilliant time was had by all at our 3rd annual Carol Service in Cobham last night.
A Massive THANK YOU to everyone who attended our Carol Service last night at St Andrew's Church, Cobham. We are ever-so-grateful to everyone involved. Big thanks to Elaine and Fiona of St Andrew's Church, and Rev'd Charleen Hollington for her opening blessing and prayers. We would also like to extend our gratitude to Jo Bentley, Principal of Stagecoach Performing Arts Cobham and Cathy Whitnall, Director of the Young Musicians of St Andrew's for organising the wonderful music for the evening. Over £685.00 has been raised through this year's carol service.
We enjoyed wonderful carol singing and readings throughout the evening. The Stagecoach performers led us off in the festive carols, followed by a wonderful welcome from Harrison himself. The holiday readings continued with the Stagecoach children giving us two lovely readings: 'The Littlest Angel' and 'Santa and Little Girl'.
'The Meaning of Christmas' was presented by our very special celebrity guest, Charlotte Hawkins. We are so pleased that Charlotte could be with us on this occassion. Charlotte said : "I was first approached to help out with the Harrison's Brunch campaign back in February – and after hearing about Harrison and what a special young man he is, I wanted to help. And it's been really lovely to meet him and his family this evening. Harrison has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy – sadly he faces many challenges living with it. He now needs the help of a wheelchair to get around. And he's not the only one – there are 2,500 children living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Harrison's Dad Alex set up the charity to fund research into finding a cure and better treatment options so hopefully one day it won't be the awful disease it is today. So please give generously – every penny counts to help improve the life of a child like Harrison." We are so grateful to Charlotte for all her support.
Throughout the evening we were also treated to some lovely instrumental pieces by William on trumpet, and Jacob on piano and organ, both from the Young Musicians of St. Andrew's, and enjoyed a fun rendition of the 'Twelve Days of Christmas' led by their Director, Cathy Whitnall, which had the whole congregation participating and singing.
Harrison's brother William did us proud in reading 'T'was the Night Before Christmas' and then later Harrison gave a very funny and endearing reading of 'Christmas Dog'. The evening's finale was a clever rendition of several favourite Christmas songs turned into a delighful medley called 'Cobham Christmas Medley' by Stagecoach.
We'd also like to thank all of our cheery and helpful volunteers and the Cobham Cedar Club WI, Garsons in Esher for the delicious mince pies, and Harrison's Grandma Jenni for the lovely Christmas crafts, and of course Ivonne Goffin Photography for her absolutely stunning photos from the evening. Lots of photos to follow. What a great way to kick off the holiday season! :)
